Game Overview
Okay, so Last Action Hero on Game Boy is exactly what you'd expect from a 90s movie tie-in—a weird little mix of side-scrolling brawling and top-down driving. You play as Jack Slater (of course), punching goons with guns or baseball bats, which sounds cooler than it is—there are only like two enemy types, so it gets repetitive fast. But hey, you can roundhouse kick them, so that’s something.
The real gimmick? Movie tickets. You’ve gotta grab these floating tickets to unlock items like fire extinguishers or rockets, which you’ll need to get past obstacles. Some levels swap to a driving section where you’re basically just ramming cars off the road to collect more tickets—kinda chaotic, kinda fun. The Game Gear version had a button-mashing "chicken" scene from the movie, but sadly, that’s missing here.
Boss fights are… fine. There’s a helicopter and The Ripper, but don’t expect anything deep. It’s a short, janky ride that’ll either charm you with its weirdness or frustrate you with its clunkiness. Definitely a product of its time.
