Play Last Action Hero (USA, Europe) Online
Battle through side-scrolling levels as Jack Slater, punch thugs, dodge hazards, and rescue your nephew while collecting film reels and taking down bosses in this 1993 action game.
Last Action Hero came out on the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Teeny Weeny Games and published by Sony Imagesoft. It was one of those licensed movie tie-ins that felt pretty common at the time, trying to capture the over-the-top action of the film on a 16-bit console.
You control Arnold Schwarzenegger's character, Jack Slater, moving through side-scrolling levels filled with thugs and environmental hazards. The main goal is to fight your way to the end of each stage, defeating bosses and rescuing your kidnapped nephew. Signature mechanics include using your fists and a limited supply of firearms to take down enemies, interacting with objects in the environment (like kicking motorcycles into groups of foes), and collecting film reels to restore health. The pacing is fast and often chaotic, with a difficulty that can feel unforgiving due to aggressive enemy patterns and limited continues. It feels like a rushed but earnest attempt to turn movie bravado into button-mashing action.
