I picked up The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon on the Nintendo DS back in 2008, developed by Etranges Libellules. It was a solid action-adventure title for the handheld, fitting right in with the platform's library of games that tried to deliver a console-like experience on the go. The hardware limitations were there, of course, but it managed to carve out its own space.

You control Spyro and Cynder, who are physically chained together, forcing you to manage both characters simultaneously during combat and flight. The main goal is to stop the Dark Master, which involves navigating large environments, solving environmental puzzles, and battling waves of enemies. Signature mechanics include a combo-based combat system where you switch between Spyro's elemental breaths and Cynder's shadow attacks, and free flight sections that open up exploration. The pacing is generally brisk, though some boss fights can feel a bit drawn out. It feels like a cooperative adventure even when playing solo, with the tether mechanic adding a unique layer to movement and strategy.
