Lemmings 2: The Tribes takes everything weirdly addictive about the original and cranks it up—now with twelve tribes of little helmet-wearing idiots, each with their own bizarre skills. You’ve got Egyptians building tiny pyramids, Highland lemmings tossing cabers, and Circus clowns pole-vaulting (because why not). The goal’s the same: stop them from walking off cliffs, but this time you’re juggling way more abilities—some make sense, like the scooper for digging diagonal tunnels, while others… well, good luck figuring out when to use the sand pourer.

The first few levels ease you in, but don’t get comfy—some tribes are brutal. I kept getting stuck on the Highland stages because those caber-throwing lemmings have zero regard for physics. The game saves your progress, which is a relief, because replaying levels to rescue every last lemming for gold medals becomes weirdly compulsive. And if you’re overwhelmed, the Classic tribe’s skills are basically the original game’s, so you can retreat to familiarity.

It’s chaotic, occasionally frustrating, and the sheer number of skills means half the time you’re just guessing. But when you finally nail a level by sending a lemming skating across ice or stacking enough planks to form a rickety bridge, it feels like a miracle. The Sega Genesis version holds up surprisingly well—just don’t blame me when you lose hours to it.
