Lemmings 2: The Tribes came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by DMA Design. It was a sequel that expanded on the original in a big way, arriving at a time when the SNES was full of inventive puzzle games. You don't control a single character but instead manage a whole tribe of lemmings, guiding them safely through each stage to an exit. The main goal is to get enough lemmings from all twelve tribes home so you can launch a rocket. The big new mechanics are the fifty different special skills, like using a ninja to cut ropes or a floater to glide down safely, and the tribal structure that groups levels by theme, such as prehistoric or medieval settings. The pacing is methodical, and some puzzles get quite tricky, demanding careful planning. It feels satisfying to watch your little crowd march to safety after you've set up all their moves just right.
