Game Overview

Line of Fire, known as Bakudan Yarou in Japan, was an arcade game released by Sega in 1989. It came out during a time when side-scrolling run and gun games were common in arcades, offering a familiar but distinct take on the genre. The game was developed by Sega, and it fit right in with the action-heavy, coin-operated experiences of the late 80s.

You control a lone soldier who must advance through enemy territory, screen by screen, clearing out hostile forces. The main objective is to survive each stage by eliminating all enemies while avoiding their attacks. Two signature mechanics define the action: you must duck behind cover when the screen flashes red to avoid incoming fire, and you can shoot enemy grenades out of the air before they detonate. The pacing is fast and unforgiving, with little room for error. It feels like a tense, reactive dance between taking cover and returning fire.
