I first played The Lion King on the Sega Genesis back in 1994, published by Virgin Interactive. It was one of those games that really showed off what the console could do visually, with detailed sprites and fluid animation that stood out among other platformers of the time. The game follows the story of the Disney film, letting you step right into Simba’s paws as he grows from a curious cub into the rightful king.

You control Simba through a series of side-scrolling levels, using a combination of platforming, combat, and environmental interaction. Your main goal is to survive each stage, from the lush Pride Lands to the dark elephant graveyard, facing enemies like hyenas and eventually Scar himself. Signature mechanics include roaring to stun foes, pouncing to attack or leap across gaps, and climbing or using vines to navigate vertically. The game is known for its challenging difficulty, especially in later stages where precise jumps and quick reactions are essential.
