Oh man, The Lion King on NES—what a brutal little gem. You start off as tiny Simba, clumsily swiping at bugs and bouncing on giraffe heads (which still feels weirdly satisfying). The animation holds up surprisingly well for an 8-bit game, especially when young Simba flops around like an actual cub.
Then suddenly you're an adult lion and everything wants to kill you. Those hyenas? Absolute menaces. The stampede level? Still gives me flashbacks. The music slaps though—you'll catch yourself humming "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" after the first stage.
Fair warning: this game chews up extra lives like Scar chewing through the Pride Lands' food supply. But nailing that perfect ostrich jump or finally beating Scar's lava arena? Pure 90s kid triumph. Just keep a walkthrough handy for the monkey puzzle—no shame in it.
