Game Overview

Little League Baseball on NES lets you pick from 16 teams—half from the U.S., half from places like Japan and Europe. I went with the Japanese squad first, mostly because their uniforms looked sharp. You can either battle the CPU in a full tournament or go head-to-head with a friend (though good luck convincing someone to sit through seven full innings).

There's this handy screen that breaks down each team's strengths—some absolutely crush fastballs, others have pitchers who make batters look silly. At the plate, you can step in or out of the box, try to lay down a bunt (never works for me), or just swing for the fences. Pitching's fun too—you can mix fastballs with changeups and even bend pitches a little left or right.

Defense is where it gets wild. Your shortstop will dive for grounders like his life depends on it, and you can shift your outfield if you suspect someone's trying to pull everything. Fun fact: the Japanese version only had local teams, so we got the better deal with this international roster.
