Lode Runner came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984, developed by Brøderbund. It was one of those early puzzle platformers that felt different from everything else on the console, built more around careful planning than fast reactions.
You control a small character who must collect all the gold pieces on each screen while avoiding guards. Your main tool is a blaster that digs temporary holes in the floor, which you can use to trap enemies or create paths. The goal is straightforward, but the level design forces you to think several moves ahead. It’s a game of patience and precision, and finishing a tricky stage gives a real sense of accomplishment.
