Game Overview

M1 Tank Platoon is one of those old-school MS-DOS games that makes you feel like you're actually running a tank platoon—not just pushing buttons. You start off with four M1 Abrams under your command, and suddenly you're responsible for everything from calling in artillery strikes to telling your gunner which Soviet tank to blast first. The weirdest part? You can jump into first-person view and take over driving or shooting if you really want to, though I usually stuck to the overhead map because keeping my guys alive was hard enough.

What I love is how your crew gets better over time—if they survive, anyway. Lose a veteran gunner and you’ll feel it in the next mission when the new guy can’t hit the broad side of a T-72. The Cold War setting adds this tense, "anything could go wrong" vibe, especially when you’re outnumbered and scrambling to coordinate infantry support while dodging enemy fire. It’s brutal, but in that satisfying way where every win feels earned.

Honestly, it’s still one of the few tank sims that nails both the big-picture strategy and the up-close chaos of combat. Just don’t expect to walk away without a few smoking wrecks behind you.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
