You control Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo, and Melman the giraffe, switching between them to use their unique abilities. The goal is to escape the zoo and eventually get off the island of Madagascar. You smash crates, solve simple environmental puzzles by swapping characters, and navigate linear levels filled with obstacles and enemies. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is manageable, though some sections require quick timing. It feels like a light, cheerful trip through the movie's story.
