Game Overview

Madagascar (N) on GBA is a side-scrolling platformer where you switch between the movie's main animals—Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman—each with their own moves. The zebra can kick, the lion roars to stun enemies, that kind of thing.

Early on, you're mostly hopping across platforms in the zoo, but once the story shifts to Madagascar, the levels open up a bit. The controls feel a little stiff, especially when precision jumping is needed, but it's not unplayable. Some of the later stages drag because you keep backtracking to use different characters' abilities.

If you liked the movie, it's a decent enough adaptation, though the GBA version lacks the DS's touchscreen gimmicks. The sprites are colorful, at least, even if the backgrounds are pretty basic. It's one of those licensed games that doesn't do anything special but isn't terrible either.
