Game Overview

Madagascar on the Game Boy Advance is one of those licensed games that actually gets it right. You start off playing as Alex in New York, doing basic platforming stuff—jumping on crates, avoiding zoo security—but then things get wild fast. The jungle levels feel chaotic in the best way, with foosa chasing you and vines to swing from. Marty’s speed sections are surprisingly fun once you get the hang of dodging obstacles.

What I love is how each character controls differently. Gloria’s weighty butt stomp feels ridiculous but satisfying, and Melman’s weird lanky jumps make no sense until you realize he’s secretly the best for tight platforming. The sprite work holds up, too—King Julien’s little dance in the background never gets old.

It’s not gonna challenge your platforming skills like a Mario game, but for a movie tie-in? Way better than it had any right to be. If you played this as a kid, the nostalgia hits hard.
