Play Mario Kart DS (J) Online
Drift around tight corners while chucking shells at friends, with the bottom screen tracking your desperate climb from last place. Bowser’s kart plows through everything but turns like a truck.

Mario Kart DS came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed by Nintendo EAD. It was one of the first games I really got into on the handheld, back when the dual screens and portability still felt fresh. The game built on what earlier Mario Kart titles did, but having it in your pocket changed how often you could just pick it up and race.
You control one of several Mario characters, each with their own kart and handling style, racing on tracks filled with obstacles and item boxes. The main goal is simple: finish first. Key mechanics include snaking, where you rapidly wiggle the steering to build mini-turbos on straightaways, and using the bottom screen as a live map or for touch-controlled minigames in battle mode. The pacing is fast, with rubber-band AI keeping races tense even when you’re ahead. It feels responsive and chaotic in the best way, especially when a well-timed green shell knocks a rival off course just before the finish line.
