Play Mario Party 3 (J) Online
You roll dice, steal stars from friends, and get thrown into ridiculous mini-games where someone always loses in the dumbest way possible. The Japanese version hits the same chaotic highs, especially in Duel Mode where it’s just you and one victim.
Mario Party 3 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 2000, developed by Hudson Soft. It was one of the later releases on the console, arriving when the N64 was still a major platform but nearing the end of its life. The game continued the series' tradition of digital board game chaos, offering a polished and slightly more refined take on the formula that had already become a staple for group play.
You control one of several Mario characters, moving around themed boards by rolling dice. The main goal is to collect more stars than your opponents, which involves earning coins in mini-games and then spending them to purchase stars when you land on the right spaces. Key mechanics include using special items to alter movement or steal coins, and engaging in frantic, skill-based mini-games after each round of turns. The pacing is brisk, with turns moving quickly and mini-games breaking up the strategy; the difficulty varies widely depending on the board and your opponents' choices. It feels like a mix of careful planning and pure luck, where friendships are tested over stolen stars and silly mini-game fails.
