Mario Party Advance (J) feels like a weird but cozy little experiment. Instead of the usual multiplayer chaos, it's just you wandering around Shroom City, doing odd jobs for Toads and playing mini-games to unlock gadgets. The board is big, almost too big sometimes, and you'll spend a lot of time rolling dice just to reach the next quest.
Some of the mini-games are fun in that classic Mario Party way, but others feel like filler. The gadgets you unlock are neat at first—little toys and puzzles—but most don't have much replay value. The boss fights against Bowser are a nice change of pace, though they don't happen often enough.
It's a strange mix of relaxing and frustrating. If you go in expecting the usual Mario Party energy, you might be disappointed. But if you just want something slow and simple to kill time, it works.
