Super Mario World came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the system's launch titles, a big step up from the NES games with more detailed graphics and a much larger world to explore. You control Mario, or Luigi if a second player joins, running and jumping through levels filled with enemies and obstacles. The main goal is to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, which means traversing the entire map of Dinosaur Land, defeating his children in castle strongholds, and finding key items to unlock new paths. The game introduced Yoshi, a dinosaur companion you can ride who eats enemies, and the Cape Feather, which lets you fly after building up enough speed. The pacing is brisk, with levels that encourage experimentation and replay to find all the hidden exits. It feels responsive and rewarding, a game where your skill at timing jumps directly translates to success.
