Janky polygons and all, you wrestle this Soviet jet through tight turns, squinting at pixelated enemies before they blast you first. Landing’s half the battle—when you pull it off, you’ll punch the air.

MiG-29M Super Fulcrum came out in 1991, developed and published by NovaLogic for MS-DOS. It was part of that wave of early 90s flight sims that tried to bring jet combat to home computers, running on hardware that was just starting to handle 3D graphics with any kind of speed. You got used to low-resolution cockpits and blocky terrain, but for its time, it felt like a step into something more immersive.
You pilot a MiG-29 fighter, taking on missions that involve air-to-air combat and ground strikes against various targets. The game uses a combination of keyboard and joystick input to manage throttle, weapons, and navigation. Key mechanics include radar lock-ons for missile engagements and managing your fuel and ammunition carefully across sorties. The pacing is deliberate, with moments of intense action punctuated by longer navigation segments; it demands patience and precision, especially during takeoffs and landings, which are challenging and require steady hands. Successfully completing a sortie after carefully managing systems and surviving dogfights gives a real sense of accomplishment.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
