ModNation Racers came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2010, developed by United Front Games and published by Sony. It was part of that late PSP era where games really pushed what the handheld could do, especially with user generated content. It felt like a natural fit for the system, something you could pick up and race with, but also spend hours building your own stuff.

You control a custom racer in a kart, competing in races across a variety of tracks. The main goal is to finish first, using weapons you pick up on the track to attack opponents and defend yourself. Two big mechanics are the creation tools, which let you design your own tracks, karts, and characters, and the boost system, where you gain speed by drifting or performing other skillful moves. The pacing is fast, with races often decided by who uses their weapons and boosts most effectively. It feels like a creative playground where every race can be a new, unpredictable challenge.
