Game Overview

Money Idol Exchanger came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by Face. It was one of those oddball puzzle games that felt right at home on the handheld, a time when developers weren't afraid to get a little weird with their concepts. You don't see many games built entirely around currency conversion, but here we are.

You control a cursor to swap adjacent coins and bills, matching them to make larger denominations which then vanish. The goal is to prevent the stack from reaching the top of the screen. Key mechanics include chaining combos by clearing multiple sets in quick succession, and using special idol pieces that clear entire rows when matched. The pace is relentless; higher levels demand quick decisions as coins pour in faster. It feels like a race against your own reflexes, a satisfying panic as you frantically build 500 yen notes just to stay alive.
