Game Overview

Parker Brothers released Monopoly for MS-DOS in 1990, bringing the classic board game to the computer screen during a time when many players were still getting used to navigating games through text commands and simple graphics. It was a straightforward adaptation, fitting right in with other early PC titles that prioritized function over flash, and it ran on the hardware most people had at the time.

You control one of the classic tokens, moving around the board by rolling dice, buying properties, and building houses or hotels when you can afford them. The main goal is to bankrupt your opponents through rent and strategic trades. Key mechanics include managing your cash and properties through a simple menu system, and negotiating trades with AI players who follow set personalities. The pacing can feel slow, especially with multiple opponents, and the difficulty varies based on how aggressive the computer acts. It feels like a quiet, sometimes tense session of the board game, but with the computer handling all the math and paperwork for you.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
