Mr. Do's Nightmare came out in the arcades in 1984 from Universal Co., Ltd. It was a sequel to the original Mr. Do, arriving during a time when maze games were still popular but starting to experiment with new ideas. This one took the familiar clown character and dropped him into a more structured, screen by screen adventure instead of one big open playfield.

You control Mr. Do, a clown armed with a bouncing ball, and your goal is to clear each single screen level by defeating all the monsters. You can dig tunnels through the dirt to move around and create paths, and you can also collect letters that spell EXTRA to earn additional lives. The monsters chase you relentlessly, and their speed increases as you eliminate more of them, creating a real tension. It feels like a careful balance between aggressive play and strategic retreat, where every decision matters right up until the final monster is gone.
