Play Mummy - Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,The (XenoPhobia) Online
Swipe at mummies with the stylus, fumble through janky platforming, and occasionally solve a decent puzzle between falls into bottomless pits. The shovel combat's dumb fun, at least.
I picked up The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for the Nintendo DS back in 2008, a time when licensed movie games were still a regular sight on the handheld. Published by Vivendi Games, it was one of those titles you'd find in a bargain bin, hoping it would capture some of the film's adventure spirit. It's very much a product of its era, built for quick sessions but demanding a lot of patience.
You control adventurer Alex O'Connell, navigating side-scrolling levels by tapping the touchscreen to make him run, jump, and swing his shovel at the undead. The main goal is to fight through waves of terracotta warriors and mummies to stop the Emperor's resurrection. The combat relies entirely on stylus swipes, which can feel imprecise when you're surrounded. You also solve environmental puzzles, like moving blocks to progress, but the platforming is often unforgiving with awkward jumps and instant-death pits. The whole experience feels clunky, but there's a simple, repetitive satisfaction in clearing a room of enemies before moving on.
