Game Overview

Musya - Imoto's Saga is one of those SNES games that somehow slipped under the radar, which is a shame because it’s got this weird, moody charm. You’re this lone warrior slicing through yokai with a naginata, and the whole thing feels like someone took a bunch of Japanese ghost stories and turned them into a side-scrolling nightmare. The first level alone—dimly lit temples, floating lanterns, enemies that crawl out of the shadows—sets the tone perfectly.

It’s tough as nails, though. Like, Ghosts 'n Goblins tough. You’ll die a lot, but the controls are tight enough that it never feels unfair—just punishing. And the art? Gorgeous in that grim, pixelated way. Every new enemy looks like it stepped out of an old woodblock print, all jerky movements and unsettling designs.

If you’re into retro action games with a dark, folky vibe, this one’s worth digging up. Just don’t expect to beat it in one sitting.
