Game Overview

Nekketsu! Beach Volley dayo Kunio-kun came out for the Game Boy in 1994, developed by Technos Japan Corp. It was part of that wave of portable games that tried to squeeze big, energetic ideas onto a small screen. This one took the rowdy spirit of the Kunio-kun series and dropped it onto the beach.

You control Kunio or Riki in two-on-two matches where the goal is to win points by spiking the ball into the sand on the opponent's side. The game uses simple d-pad and button controls to move, set, and spike, but it stands out with its exaggerated special moves that can send the other team flying. Matches are fast and a little unpredictable, with the ball often ricocheting in wild ways. It feels like a street brawl disguised as a sports game.
