Play New Retro Mario Bros Online

Mario moves just like you remember—that perfect slide into a sprint, the satisfying crunch of landing on a shell—but the levels throw in sneaky warp zones and ghost house tricks that keep you on your toes. That pixel-powerup turning him into his NES self? Chef’s kiss.

Game Overview

New Retro Mario Bros feels like someone dug up an unreleased Mario game from the SNES glory days and polished it just enough to feel new. The first thing you’ll notice is how right it all feels—the way Mario slides into a sprint, the weight of a jump landing on a Koopa shell, even the little "ding" when you grab a coin. It’s all there, just like you remember, but with levels that surprise you (that one ghost house had me backtracking twice before I found the real exit).

What I love is how it doesn’t just copy-paste the old formula. There are these weird little twists—like a power-up that turns Mario into a pixel-art version of his NES self, or hidden warp zones that lead to mini-challenges. And yeah, it’s tough in spots, but never unfair. You’ll die because you mistimed a jump, not because the game cheated. If you’ve ever yelled at a TV over a perfect run ruined by a rogue Bullet Bill, this’ll feel like coming home.

Also, whoever designed the music deserves a raise. That overworld theme’s been stuck in my head for days.
