Game Overview

Olympic Summer Games 96 came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, developed by Black Pearl Software. It was one of those late era SNES sports titles that tried to squeeze a bit more out of the hardware before the Nintendo 64 took over. You pick a country and then just jump into a bunch of events, no frills.

You control an athlete across several events like the 100m dash, javelin, and pole vault. The main goal is to win medals by performing better than the computer opponents or a friend in two player mode. The mechanics are all about timing button presses for running, building power for throws, and angling your jumps. It can be pretty unforgiving; mistime a vault and you'll faceplant into the bar. The controls feel a bit stiff and the physics are quirky, which leads to a lot of accidental comedy during play. It's a game where the frustration and the silly moments with a friend are the real reward.
