Game Overview

Sport of Kings is one of those classic Amiga games where you get to play the owner of a racing stable—not just bet on races, but actually manage the whole operation. You pick which horses to enter, hire jockeys (some are way better than others, obviously), and try to match them up with the right races. The trick is checking all the stats—some horses perform better on wet tracks, others are sprinters who fall apart in long races.

Once you’ve set everything up, the races play out in this simple but weirdly tense side-view animation. Your horse might start strong and then fade at the last second, or some underdog you barely paid attention to comes charging out of nowhere. It’s way more engaging than you’d expect from a bunch of pixels trotting across the screen.

Best part? Up to four players can compete, so you can ruin friendships by stealing the best jockey or entering a horse just to block someone else’s big payday. The AI isn’t bad either if you’re flying solo. It’s one of those games where you keep saying “one more race” until it’s 2 AM.
