I first came across Pae Wang Jeon Seol, or Legend of a Warrior, in the arcade around 1992. It was published by Comad, and it fit right in with the side-scrolling action games of that era. You control a lone warrior making your way through screen after screen of enemy soldiers, monsters, and occasional mini-bosses. Your main goal is to survive each stage, using your sword to cut down foes and a bow for ranged attacks when you pick up the item for it. The game moves at a steady pace, with some tricky enemy placements that keep you alert. It’s not the hardest game out there, but it does demand attention, especially when projectiles start flying.
