Phantasy Star III is the weird one in the series—no spaceships, no Alis, just this moody, generation-spanning fantasy RPG that feels totally different from the others. You start off with this arranged marriage choice that actually matters, which blew my mind as a kid. The whole "pick a bride, see how your kids turn out" thing gives it this cool, almost experimental vibe.
Combat's slower than PSII (thank god), but the dungeons are still those brutal mazes the series loves. The music’s got this haunting quality, especially the overworld theme—you’ll either love the atmosphere or bounce off hard. It’s definitely the divisive middle child of the Phantasy Star games, but there’s something about its ambition that stuck with me.
