Game Overview
Pocky & Rocky is one of those SNES games that somehow flew under the radar but absolutely deserves a spot in any retro collection. You play as either Pocky, a shrine maiden with serious moves, or Rocky, her mischievous tanuki buddy—and honestly, I always pick Rocky because watching him toss leaves while backflipping never gets old.
The screen fills up fast with yokai spirits, floating heads, and other weird folklore baddies, forcing you to constantly dodge while spamming your attack button. It’s chaotic, but in that perfect arcade way where you’re laughing more than you’re frustrated. The pixel art is gorgeous, especially when everything explodes in a shower of talismans and glowing orbs.
Co-op is where this game really shines. My friend and I still argue about who "accidentally" walked into whose line of fire, but that’s half the fun. And the bosses? Some of them are downright creative—like that giant frog that spits smaller frogs at you. If you missed this back in the day, it’s worth hunting down.
