Game Overview

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness (the Japanese version) is one of those DS games I kept coming back to—even when I probably should’ve been doing something else. You start off as a human turned into a Pokémon (I got stuck as a Cyndaquil my first run), teaming up with a partner to explore randomly generated dungeons that change every time.

It’s got that classic Mystery Dungeon vibe: hunger meters, limited inventory space, and enemies that hit way harder if you’re not careful. The story’s surprisingly deep for a Pokémon spin-off, too—expect time travel, betrayals, and a few moments that actually made me pause. Just don’t get too attached to your Reviver Seeds.

If you like dungeon crawlers with a side of emotional damage, this one’s a solid pick.
