Game Overview

Power Mission came out for the Game Boy in 1990, published by Vic Tokai. It was part of that early wave of portable games where developers were still figuring out how to translate complex ideas onto a small, monochrome screen. You don't hear much about it now, but it had a specific kind of ambition for its time.

You control a small fighter jet from a top-down perspective, flying over land and sea to destroy enemy bases. The main objective is to clear each stage by bombing all targets while avoiding enemy fire and natural obstacles. Signature mechanics include a limited fuel supply that forces you to refuel at friendly bases, and a two weapon system (machine gun and bombs) you switch between for air and ground targets. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, as you carefully manage your resources between assaults. It feels like a slow, calculated burn where every mistake costs you precious fuel or health.
