Dodge swarms of neon alien ships while your screen explodes with lasers—just when you think you’ve got the hang of it, the second level crushes you like a bug. That Amiga soundtrack almost makes the pain worth it.

Project-X was released as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a compilation that brought together several titles from the platform's early years. The game was developed by Team17, a studio known for its work on the Amiga, and it fits right into that era of fast-paced, challenging shooters that demanded quick reflexes and memorization.
You pilot a small, nimble spacecraft through horizontally scrolling levels filled with enemy formations and elaborate bullet patterns. Your main goal is simply to survive each stage, destroying everything in your path while collecting power-ups to enhance your ship's weapons and defenses. Signature mechanics include switching between multiple weapon types on the fly, such as spread shots and homing missiles, and strategically using a limited supply of smart bombs to clear the screen when overwhelmed. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty spikes sharply, especially from the second level onward. It feels like a constant test of your focus and pattern recognition, with every successful dodge bringing a small rush of relief.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
