Putt & Putter came out for the Sega Master System in 1990, developed by Compile. It was one of the few golf games on the system, offering a colorful, arcade-style alternative to the more serious simulations available elsewhere. It fit right in with the kind of accessible, pick-up-and-play titles that defined a lot of the Master System's library, especially in regions where it was more popular.

You control a golfer, Putter, and your main goal is to sink your ball in the hole on each course, navigating through a series of themed stages that are more obstacle course than traditional fairway. The signature mechanics involve dealing with moving platforms, warps, and enemies that can block your path or even steal your ball. You have to judge the power and angle of each shot carefully, as hitting the ball into hazards or off the screen makes it vanish, forcing you to restart the hole. The pacing is quick, but the difficulty spikes sharply on later courses where precision is everything. It feels like a puzzle you solve with a well-aimed swing.
