Puyo Puyo Fever 2 came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that early DS wave where touch controls felt fresh, even if they weren't always perfect. This one was a Japan-only release, a direct sequel that built on the first Fever game's mechanics.

You control falling pairs of gelatinous blobs called Puyos, rotating and placing them to create groups of four or more of the same color. The main goal is to clear your screen while sending garbage Puyos to overwhelm your opponent. Its signature mechanics are the Fever mode, which gifts you a pre-built massive combo when your meter fills, and the optional stylus controls that let you drag and drop Puyos directly. The pacing is frantic; you're constantly planning chains under pressure while cartoon characters chatter at you. It feels like desperately building a fragile tower that might topple at any moment.
