Quest for Glory II: Trial By Fire was one of those Amiga games that felt like a proper adventure—part RPG, part puzzle solver, with just enough humor to keep things from getting too serious. You start off as this rookie hero (or thief, or wizard, depending on your pick) dumped into the middle of a desert city full of weird little secrets and shady characters. The first time I played, I spent way too long just poking around the bazaar, haggling with merchants and getting scammed by street performers.

Combat’s clunky by today’s standards, but back then, the mix of typing commands and real-time sword swings felt fresh. And the magic system? Actually required you to memorize spells properly—none of this auto-cast nonsense. Mess up the incantation, and you’d either get a fizzle or something hilariously wrong.

Disk 7 was just one part of the whole saga, but even now, the art and music stick with me. That moment when you first walk into Shapeir’s palace and the soundtrack kicks in? Still gives me chills.
