Questron II came out in 1988 from Strategic Simulations, Inc. for MS-DOS, a time when many RPGs were still figuring out how to balance depth with accessibility. It built on the first game's ideas, offering a large world to explore with a mix of top-down travel and menu-driven interaction, typical of the era but with its own distinct flavor.
You control a single hero, beginning with almost nothing, and must build your strength by fighting monsters, gathering gold, and upgrading equipment. The main goal involves traveling across the continent, delving into dungeons, and defeating six powerful sorcerers to prevent a catastrophic upheaval. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration, turn-based combat where you choose between melee or ranged attacks, and an emphasis on managing your inventory and resources. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be steep, especially early on when even weak enemies pose a threat. Playing it feels like slowly earning your place in a world that does not care if you succeed or fail.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
