Game Overview

Rapid Response came out in 1996 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection from Apogee Software. It was a time when top-down driving games were common, but this one had a specific, frantic purpose. You weren't just racing; you were driving an ambulance through city streets under a strict time limit, which set it apart from many other arcade-style games of the era.

You control an ambulance driver responding to emergency calls across a busy city. Your main objective is to reach injured civilians, load them into your vehicle, and deliver them to the hospital before the timer runs out. The game uses screen-by-screen navigation, requiring you to memorize turns and shortcuts through a maze of traffic and obstacles. Collisions with other cars or objects slow you down drastically, and the pacing is relentless, with the clock always feeling a few seconds short. It feels like a tense race against failure where every intersection is a gamble.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
