Game Overview
Real Bout Fatal Fury is that perfect middle ground between old-school Fatal Fury chaos and the tighter fighting games that came later. The first thing you’ll notice is how good the sprites look—Terry’s jacket actually moves when he does, and the stages have this weirdly satisfying depth to them.
It still has the two-plane system from earlier games, but they made switching between them way smoother. I kept getting wrecked by Geese’s counters at first until I figured out you can bait him into whiffing. And that soundtrack? Absolute bangers, especially the King’s theme.
If you’ve played other SNK fighters, you’ll pick it up fast, but there’s enough little tweaks (like the ring-outs on certain stages) to keep it interesting. Just don’t blame me when you lose an hour to arcade mode trying to unlock the secret boss.
