Game Overview

Return to Genesis is one of those Amiga shooters that sticks with you—mostly because of how weirdly charming it is. You’re flying through the Zephyr system trying to rescue a bunch of scientists (and their 50 clones each, because apparently that’s how science gets done). The Mechanauts are everywhere, and your job is to blast them while scooping up the researchers—though if you’re feeling ruthless, you can shoot them instead and just finish the level early.

What’s cool is that each scientist unlocks a different weapon for your ship, so there’s a real incentive to play nice. And unlike most shooters, bumping into walls won’t kill you—it just sends you ricocheting backward at full speed, which is either hilarious or frustrating depending on how badly you messed up. Fifty levels of chaotic, clone-filled action later, and you’ll either love it or swear off scientists forever.
