Rise of the Robots was one of those games that looked absolutely mind-blowing in screenshots—sleek, futuristic fighters duking it out with smooth animations. Then you actually played it and realized the hype didn’t quite match the reality.

It’s a one-on-one fighter where you pick from these shiny, pre-rendered robots, each with their own (admittedly cool) designs. The controls are stiff, though, and the AI either feels too easy or suddenly impossible. Still, there’s something weirdly charming about how ambitious it was for its time—just don’t expect Street Fighter levels of depth.

If you’re an Amiga fan, it’s worth a look for the nostalgia, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
