Rise of the Robots on the Amiga is one of those games that looked absolutely mind-blowing in screenshots back in the day—those 3D-rendered robot fighters were something else. You play as this cyborg infiltrating a factory where the machines have gone rogue, and the whole thing has this weirdly cool industrial vibe. The fights themselves are pretty straightforward—three punch buttons, three kick buttons, and the usual d-pad movement—but the AI actually adapts to how you play, which was rare back then.

What I remember most is how stiff the animations felt at first, but once you get the hang of the Turbo Head Butt or Shoulder Barge, it clicks. The mission mode throws robots at you in a set order, but training lets you pick who to fight, which is nice when you just want to practice against that one annoying bot. And yeah, that title track by Brian May from Queen? Still slaps.

It’s not the deepest fighter out there, but there’s something charming about its clunky, metallic brawls. Just don’t expect Street Fighter-level combos.
