Rise of the Robots on the Amiga was one of those games that looked incredible in screenshots—smooth 3D-ish fighters duking it out with flashy animations. But once you actually played it, you realized the combat was clunky as hell. The robots moved like they were stuck in molasses, and the controls never quite did what you wanted. Still, there was something weirdly hypnotic about the metallic clangs and the way the camera zoomed in during knockouts. It’s more of a tech demo than a real fighting game, but if you grew up with an Amiga, you probably spent at least an afternoon trying to make it fun.
