Game Overview

I picked up RockMan Zero Collection on the Nintendo DS back in 2010, a compilation put together by Capcom that bundles the four GBA titles into one convenient cartridge. It was a solid way to revisit these games on a handheld that was still very much active, offering a dose of classic action without needing to dig out older hardware.

You control Zero, a Reploid, through tightly designed side-scrolling stages, slashing through mechanized enemies with his beam saber and picking them off with the buster shot. The main goal is to complete missions, defeat bosses, and uncover the truth behind a war between humans and reploids. Key mechanics include acquiring and switching between different weapon types like the rod and shield, alongside collecting cyber-elves that can modify your abilities or provide support. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is consistently demanding, often requiring precise movement and quick reflexes. It feels sharp and responsive, with every jump and attack carrying a sense of consequence.
