Man, Rotox is one of those MS-DOS games that just feels right if you grew up mashing keys in the '90s. You boot it up, and within seconds you're dodging pixel-perfect obstacles, blasting enemies with satisfyingly chunky projectiles, and probably dying a lot—but in that good way where you immediately hit retry. The controls are tight, the colors pop (for a DOS game, anyway), and the difficulty curve? Brutal, but fair.
It’s got that same addictive energy as Commander Keen, but with its own weird little twists—like power-ups that actually change how you play instead of just being stat boosts. No tutorials, no fluff, just you versus the game’s devious level design. And yeah, you’ll curse at the screen a few times, but when you finally nail that perfect run? Pure dopamine.
If you’ve got DOSBox installed and miss the days when games didn’t hold your hand, this one’s a no-brainer. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of an hour.
