It’s got that same frantic energy as Bomberman, but with a bit of Lode Runner’s platforming thrown in, all wrapped up in that chunky, colorful GBC style.
The controls are tight, and the levels are just the right length for quick play sessions, though I got stuck more than once trying to figure out some of the later puzzles. The whole thing oozes charm, from the bouncy music to the way Rox wiggles when he runs. It never made it outside Japan, which is a shame—it’s the perfect kind of weird little game that makes digging through retro imports so much fun.
If you’ve got a soft spot for forgotten gems, Rox is a blast from the past that still holds up.
