Game Overview

I picked up The Scorpion King: Sword of Osiris back when it came out on Game Boy Advance in 2002, a tie-in with the movie that was surprisingly solid for a licensed game. Developed by WayForward and published by Universal Interactive, it fit right in with the GBA's library of action platformers, offering a straightforward adventure without a lot of the fluff you sometimes saw in movie games.

You control the Scorpion King himself, Mathayus, through a series of side-scrolling levels, using your sword and a crossbow to cut down skeletons, mummies, and other mythological foes. The main goal is to stop the evil sorcerer Memnon from obtaining the powerful Sword of Osiris. You explore screen by screen, finding keys to unlock doors and searching for hidden passages, while also collecting Anubis tokens to upgrade your health and weapons. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty feels fair, with enemy patterns you can learn and environmental puzzles that break up the combat. It feels like a brisk, competent action game that respects your time.
