Okay, so Scurge: Hive is this weird little sci-fi gem on the DS that somehow blends Metroid-style exploration with top-down shooter vibes. You play as Jenosa, a bounty hunter who gets infected with this nasty alien parasite (the "scurge") and has to blast her way through a bio-mechanical hive before it takes over completely.
The coolest part? Your infection meter constantly ticks up, so you're always racing against time between finding decontamination stations and fighting off these creepy organic-mechanical hybrids. The dual-screen setup works surprisingly well—map on bottom, action on top—and the touchscreen actually makes inventory management less of a headache than usual.
Fair warning though, some of those boss fights will make you want to chuck your DS across the room. That final stretch where your energy drains faster? Pure agony (in a good way).
